Based around the Italian-built Energica Ego roadbike, the MotoE machine boasts 108kW (145hp) of power, it weighs 259kg and is said to be good for a top speed of 240km/h.

Made up of 18 entries, the MotoE World Cup will run in conjunction with the MotoGP World Championship, initially at just five of the European rounds, with a view to eventually expand it into a global event.

Each of the seven MotoGP independent teams will receive two of the Energica machines, while another four will be provided to any Moto2 or Moto3 team wishing to enter.

Races will be 10-lap affairs, and held on race-day Sunday. Practice and qualifying sessions will be held on the Friday and Saturday respectively leading into the race.
