The AMCN Winter Jacket Drive aims to help people who are homeless by providing them with pre-loved motorcycle jackets. Made of tough materials and often designed specifically to withstand the cold and rain, these jackets can make a big difference for someone who is sleeping rough, especially during the winter months.
The initiative is organised by AMCN with support from Shannons Insurance, Mission Australia and Victory & Indian Motorcycles – and of course generous riders willing to donate a spare jacket or two.
If you are keen to donate a jacket – or a blanket in the warmer northern states – drop-off points have been set up in Shannons branches around the country and a number of other locations listed below. Donations will be received until the end of June.
Winter Jacket Drive Events:
The Sydney Jacket Collection – Saturday 25 June
At the Robertson Pie Shop in Sydney from 10am till 12 noon, the Mission Australia and AMCN teams will collect jackets from local motorcycle clubs and riders. Last year a number of riders dropped in on classic motorcycles and we hope to see another great turn-out in 2016. Why not join us there?
The Sydney Warmth Ride – Monday 27 June
Participants will meet at the Victory & Indian Motorcycles showroom at 554 Parramatta Rd, Ashfield at 9am, then leave at 10am to ride into the CBD where they will help the Missionbeat team hand out jackets to those in need. Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
The Melbourne Warmth Ride – Monday 27
The ride will start at the Victory & Indian Motorcycles showroom at 544 Elizabeth St, Melbourne, also at 9am. Participants will leave at 10am for a 10-20km ride through the metro area on the way to the Synergy Repairs workshop in North Melbourne, where they will get a chance to see the work Mission Australia does providing on-the-job training and work experience for marginalised youth. The jackets collected will be dropped off at Synergy for later distribution. As in Sydney, all those interested in attending are welcome.
